BMRDA – Bangalore Metropolitan Regional Development Authority is an autonomous body formed under the Government of Karnataka to facilitate planned development in Bangalore and nearby areas. Bangalore city is a real confluence of technology and culture, where decent living is possible amidst plush shopping malls and software parks. Bangalore Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (BMRDA) was formed under the BMRDA Act of 1985. Since its formation, BMRDA has been undertaking the planned development of Bangalore Metropolitan Region that comprises of Bangalore Urban and Bangalore Rural Districts and Malur Taluk of Kolar district. The Chairman of the BMRDA is the Chief Minister of Karnataka while the Minister for Urban Development acts in the capacity of the Vice-Chairman of BMRDA Bangalore.
BMRDA: Administrative Responsibility
The major administrative responsibility of BMRDA is to integrate the functioning of other development agencies in Bangalore like the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, Bangalore Development Authority, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board, the Karnataka Slum Clearance Board, the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd., Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board, Karnataka State Road Transportation Corporation.
The area of function for the BMRDA is the Bangalore Metropolitan Region that is divided into five Area Planning Zones known as the APZ and the Interstitial Zones or the IZ. The BMRDA Map and Area Planning Zones (APZ) consist of the following areas:
