Faridabad Map |
Faridabad, the most populous city of Haryana, is one of the major satellite cities of Delhi falling within the area of National Capital Region. The city was established in 1607 by Shaikh Farid, the treasurer of Jahangir, as a transit point for the tourists visiting Delhi and it was bestowed with a fort, a tank, a sarai and a travelers' lodge. Later it was made the headquarter of a pargana held by the Ballabhgarh ruler. Post independence in 1979, the city was incorporated into Haryana as its twelfth district. Faridabad lies just at a distance of 25 kms south of Delhi. Towards west it is bound by Gurgaon, another NCR, while its eastern and southern boundaries touch the state of Uttar Pradesh. Delhi-Mathura National Highway, a part of the famous Shershah Suri Marg passes through the middle of the district making it an easily-accessible region. The city is also connected through double track broad-gauge lines of the North Central Railway. Since the time Faridabad was made an NCR, the pace of industrial development in the city has accelerated significantly and today it provides an ideal base for a number of industries. Some of the major industrial produces include tractors, switch gears, motorcycles, refrigerators, tyres and shoes. Faridabad also attracts the attention of tourists who come here to visit places like Sujar Kund, Badhkal Lake, Raja Nahar Singh Palace, Aravalli Golf Club and Dabchick. Ballabhgarh and Faridabad are two subdivisions, each of which is headed by a sub-divisional officer.
