The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) was formed and came into function from January 6, 1976 under a distinct Act of the State Legislature. The BDA has united itself with the City Planning Authority and other developmental functions. The chief focus of the BDA is to improve the city of Bangalore and do the job in a strategic method to create quality infrastructure. The authority is catering to meet the housing needs of the under privileged people. From the day of its inception, the BDA has assigned almost 76,000 sites to persons for erection of domiciliary abodes. Apart from that, more than 800 civil facilities locates have been developed that are used by copious community utilities.

BDA SITES
BDA has assimilated 743 acres of plot for Banashankari 6th stage Phase 3 and has allotted 5000 sites in Anjanapura Further Extension in Uttrahalli Hobli, Bangalore South Taluk in the year 2000. The authority has also acquired almost 750 acres of land in Uttrahalli Hobli in the year 2004 and has allotted 5800 sites. The authority has also allocated 1337 acres of property for Sir M. Visweshwaraya Blueprint (SMV) and has assigned 10,000 sites for auction in Bangalore city. The BDA has also allotted sites for the development of parks and playgrounds. Land bank has been formed to meet the demand for land and property. The BDA has formed almost 62 layouts and done the allotments of sites of about 2 Lakh to general community. In the last years, the authority has added 10 more layouts to enhance the growth of the city.
Eligibility Criteria to apply for BDA sites
- To get the eligibility for applying for sites you have to have address in the state of Karnataka for not less than 15 years prior to the date of registration. Persons who are above 18 years of age are eligible to apply.
- Officers belonging to the All India Services (AIS โ Karnataka Cadre) serving in the state of outside the state and who have the minimum of 2 years of domicile before the date of the notification are also eligible.
- If any individual or any member of the family already owns a site (residential or commercial) by BDA or Co-operative Society that is registered under Karnataka Co-operative Society Act, 1959 are not eligible to apply for any further sites.
Criteria for selection of applicant for the allotment of sites
The criteria for selection of the applicants is purely based on the seniority that is also based on number of earlier attempts, category, age, average annual income of the applicant if you are applying for EWS sites or houses.
Different Categories considered while allotting sites
Schedule tribe 3%, backward tribe 2%, schedule caste 13%, State Government employees 10&, Defense persons and the family members who have expired in action 10%, Central Government staffs & public sector workers 8%, general public 50%, physically handicapped 2% and people who have done exemplary services in the field of arts, science and sports 2%.
Sanctioning Authority for building plans
The engineering unit of the Bangalore Development Authority can approve all the building plans. The applicants have to submit all the relevant documents as prescribed by the BDA.
