Jalandhar is a city in the Indian state of Punjab. It is situated 144 km north from the state’s capital city, Chandigarh. The city is a major automobile selling hub in India.
The Municipal Corporation of Jalandhar was established in the year 1977. Prior to the establishment of Jalandhar Municipal Corporation, there used to be a municipal committee. This committee was established way back in the 19th century, the exact year being 1867. The municipality focuses on the basic needs and requirements of citizens. It offers services to development of rural as well urban areas of Jalandhar. Presently, the municipality has been given charge to develop civic infrastructure based facilities all throughout the Punjab state.
Construction and development of educational institutes, medical units, dispensaries, entertainment resources, and residential complexes are going on at a fast pace under active participation of this municipality. Of late, there have been several development plan and projects for backward classes residing in Jalandhar. People living in slums are provided with basic amenities like clean drinking water, electricity, toilet, and garbage deposit bin. Proper care is taken to maintain sanity and cleanliness in these poverty ridden areas.
There are several projects being undertaken by the Jalandhar Municipality. Among these, UIDSSMT Project is the most important. This project has been undertaken by the municipality to provide water & sewerage facility to every citizen of Jalandhar. According to detailed project report submitted by the municipality to urban department ministry under UIDSSMT scheme, the total amount requested is 361.76 Lac INR. However, under this particular scheme, funds of Rs. 63.34 & 62.37 Crore for Phase-I & II respectively has been have approved by GOI. The details are provided below:
