Authority for Urban Development of Housing with a target to development infrastructure of the city and providing homes were founded by the Government of HP under HP Authority for Urban Development of Housing Act, 2004. A merger took place between HP Authority for Urban Development of Housing and HP Nagar Vikas Pradhikaran with the supervision of state Government of HP to undertake the works of colonies which are worth residing in various cities of the Indian state called Himachal Pradesh. HIUMDA has taken up various housing development projects in Rampur, Shimla, Rohroo, Mandi, Solan, Dehra, Paonta Sahils, Nahan, Hamirpur, Sunder Nagar, Palampur, Indore, Kangra, Kandrori, Bangana, Parwanoo, Baddi, and Una.

If the eagerness for owning them in specific area becomes adequate, the Government will implement requisite measures for acquirement of land and it contemplates to end up the formalities in about six months.

Nestle has earmarked thirty acres of land around Talewal in Una district of Himachal Pradesh for starting its business activity there. As the land is under the jurisdiction o Authority for Urban Development of Housing, its lawful transfer to Nestle will not be a difficult task. As per the company spokesman, there will be a scope for one thousand people getting direct employment after setting up their plant. Another spokesman of Industrial Department of Himachal Pradesh has informed that Cadbury India has shown their eagerness for establishing a unit of their company in Himachal Pradesh. Cadbury India is looking for land also in the surroundings of Baddi in the district of Solan, Himachal Pradesh. The state government is also planning for setting up a food park at Kangra District of Himachal Pradesh and a huge plot of land has been located near Indore in Kangra with huge investment plan for the food park where citrus, apple and mango processing plants will be set up.
