Indian Overseas Bank (abbreviated: IOB) was established on the 10th of February, 1937. It was founded by Shri. M.Ct.M.Chidambaram Chettyar. This is the first bank to introduce Personal Loan Schemes and consumer credit provisional options. Slowly, it launched the facility services of provident funds and inter-branch reconciliation facilities. However, in the year 1969, IOB earned the status of being a national banking institute of India. Presently, IOB has 1427 national branch and 6 overseas branches. The bank features 436 ATM & 243 extension counters.
IOB had opened its first overseas branch in Singapore. The year was 1941 when this branch was opened in Singapore. This branch offers services in agriculture consultancy, savings banking, current account, fixed deposit, trade finance, remittance, credit, NRI Services cheque facility, merchant banking, cross selling insurance products, and multi-city cheque facility. The Singapore branch features facility of ‘Any Branch Banking’. This allows clients to use any branch of the IOB for money deposition, withdrawal, etc. Apart from Singapore, the IOB has its branches in Seoul, Hong Kong, and Colombo. It has also opened a specialized foreign currency banking unit in Colombo.
