Jaipur is the capital and largest city of Rajasthan. The city enjoys tremendous tourist presence from different parts of the world. It is also an important industrial area within the Rajasthan state.
The Municipal Corporation of Jaipur was established in the year of 1994 under the seventy fourth amendment act. The present mayor is Jyoti Khandelwal. The major purpose for the formation of such a municipal corporation was to provide suitable service in accordance to the growing needs of the city. Providing best services to citizens and tourists is the motto. Jaipur may well be known as pink city, but the present beautification process has been carried out by the municipal corporation. It has actively participated in several city renovation projects like maintenance of parks and heritage sites, developing roads, subways, bridges, and flyovers. Presently, the municipality is working hard to reform Jaipur according to urban standards while promoting further the hospitality industry. It is also showing several concerns for the well being of occupants.
In order to attain the objectives, MCJ is launching different programs and plans that matches with the needs of people. To take the city into an altogether different height, municipal corporation of Jaipur is working enough sincerely to provide the basic amenities in the most proficient manner. Providing sufficient water supply, electricity, waste water management system, regular collection of garbage from different city corners, and constructing several educational as well health centers are some of the initiatives taken by Jaipur Municipal Corporation. The municipality also ensures that no part of the city is deprived of proper sanitation and hygiene practices.
The municipal corporation also carries out several maintenance and construction works for city roads, flyovers, tunnels, etc. It has been involved urban housing development projects. Presently, The Gandhi Enclave Residential Scheme is the latest housing project being undertaken by the municipality. The lottery date for this scheme has been shifted from 11.07.2012 to 23.08.2012. The Jaipur municipal corporation has also taken necessary initiatives to develop recreational centers at different parts of the city. It has also been in the limelight for development of slum regions. Providing basic amenities like water and electricity, while focusing strongly on the health and sanitation in these poverty driven areas are done with utmost sincerity.
The city of Jaipur has been divided into several zones after the evolution of MCJ. Municipal sub offices are present at each zone. As a result, individual care is provided to every zone in terms of development, safety, hygiene, and construction work. Apart from these, the MCJ also provides birth and death certificates to city residents. By this way, they maintain a detailed record of the city population.
