West Bengal Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority was established in the year of 1980 under the Town and Country Planning Development Act 1979. Total area under the West Bengal Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority is 2327.12 sq.km. It covers C.D. blocks of Naxalbari, Siliguri, Matigara, Kharibari, & Phansidewa from Darjeeling District and Rajganj, Jalpaiguri Sadar, Mal municipal area, Entire Mallbazar block, and some area of Mainaguri P.S. from Jalpaiguri District. The town of Jalpaiguri is near about 45 Kms from Siliguri. According to the 2001 census by SJDA, the total population under this municipality is 2.01 million.
WBSJDA was constituted mainly for the planning as well development of Siliguri and Jalpaiguri regions. Planning, development, & construction of roads, bridges, flyovers, as well commercial and residential housing complexes are carried out by WBSJDA in the best possible way. Several new projects schemes are launching through WBSJDA. Have a look at them in details:
- Project Name: Proposal for construction of boundary wall at Polytechnic Institute, Jalpaiguri
Project Description: The Boundary Wall length will be around 2.0 km.
Cost: Approximate cost will be around 75 lacs INR.
- Project Name: Vivekananda Bhavan Market Complex at Hill Cart road, Siliguri
Project Description: An eight storied commercial building with basement parking facility
Cost: 1 crore approximately
- Project name: Construction of Road, Patkata Colony, Jalpaiguri
Project Description: Strengthening of the roads at Patkata Colony, Paharpur GP sardar block, Jalpaiguri. The total road length is 4.04.
Cost: 88.44 lacs INR
- Project name: Development of Road, Samsanghat, Maynaguri
Project Description: Road development from Samsanghat to Maynaguri Byepass
Cost: 84.00 lacs INR
- Project name: Drainage scheme, Malkani Hut
Project Description: Construction of drainage system of 350 meter length
Cost: 10 lacs INR
- Project name: Construction of community hall, Malkani Hut
Project Description: Open stage cum community hall at Malkani Hut commercial complex. The total area estimation is 2000sq ft (ground and first floor included).
Cost: 45 lacs INR
Apart from these upcoming projects, WBSJDA is also associated with Mahanada Action Plan. It is one of the most important projects to be a part of. Siliguri town is located on the banks of Mahananda River. To save the river from getting contaminated due to domestic waste disposal and discharge is what Mahananada Action Plan is all about. In short, save River Mahananda is the primary motto of this project. A fourth bridge is also getting constructed over the river Mahananda. The total length of this bridge is 160 m with 1.5 m wide footpaths on each side.
