Feng shui, the ancient Chinese art, is based on a complex body of knowledge. On one hand, it speaks of five elements or forces, such as fire, earth, metal, water and wood; according to feng shui everything in this universe is made out of them. On the other hand, it also tells us how the two energies – the yin and yang play a vital role in our well being. The idea is to balance the energies in any given space to suit the people living or working there. Additionally, in Feng shui, colors play an important part too; one can not only enhance the effects of those elements by using the right color in the right space, but if there is any defect in the design of the building, such defects can also be minimized with them. Indeed, it is not always possible to remodel a house to suit feng shui principles. Consequently, the masters have developed remedies to counter the structural defects of any building and colors are one of them.
These colors are always based on the elements comprising the space as well as the people working or living there.
Let us first take the example of fire element. It represents passion and high energy and can improve career efforts to help the occupants achieve recognition. Ideally, such activities should always take place in the northeast or southwest corner of the building; but if that is not possible and the area, where such activities take place lacks fire elements, one can easily enhance it by using red, orange, purple, pink and strong yellow in its décor.
Next is the earth element; it represents nourishment and stability. A balanced earth element in the home will not only make the occupants healthier, but will keep their relationship healthy too. In general, centre of your home is the space where such elements are strong, but they are equally effective in northeast and southwest too. However, these effects can be enhanced by using light yellow, beige and other earthly colors in the area where the family spends time together.
Metal, on the other hand, is for clarity and preciseness. Ideally the north area of your home or office should consist of such elements. Water is for ease, freshness and abundance and so use of water elements in north, east and southeast will bring about not only a refreshing energy of calm, ease, purity and freshness in that area, but abundance too. The feng shui colors for water elements are blue and black. One can use them to improve the overall quality of life. Wood is for health and vitality. It is also the element of east and south east of the building. Use of brown and green in such an area will make the family not only healthy but wealthy too.
